chapter three: rehearsal

A few days passed and it was about 9AM in the morning and Nick was still sound asleep in his bed. Amanda and Emma went into his room already dressed and ready to go. Amanda sighed, "Great. Now Kevin's gonna be mad again. I swear it's hard to believe he's the one that's supposed to be up. He NEVER learns. Squeaker, get up." Nick mumbled and turned onto his side. Amanda took one of the extra pillows Nick had on the bed and smacked him hard on the head.

"…OW!!" said Nick, waking up groggily.

"Amanda…you don't have to be so mean," said Emma, "I'm sure there's other ways to wake him up, nicer ways. Ways that don't require violence."

"Nah, I tried all of the non-violent ways. It just doesn't work," said Amanda.

"Man, Amanda. What do you want?" asked Nick, trying to get the hair out of his face.

"If you didn't notice, we both have rehearsal this morning. And if we're both late, we're both going to get yelled at by Kevin, as well as a whole handful of other people. Now come on and get up. I don't want to get yelled at just because you're too lazy to get up on time," lectured Amanda.

Nick groaned and got up. "Yes mama~," he said in a kiddy voice, as he got off his bed and headed off to his bathroom.

"I'm not your mother! Thank god," said Amanda.

Emma smiled, "I wouldn't mind being a mother to a kid that cute," she said.

Amanda rolled her eyes. "All I'm gonna say is, I feel sorry for Aunt Jane sometimes. And she's got another little Squeaker as well," said Amanda.

"Aww, leave Aaron alone. He's adorable," said Emma.

"But he's growing up just like Nick," said Amanda.

"Like that's a bad thing…" said Emma.

"…Well to me it is," said Amanda.

"Yeah right, you know you like both of them. You're just too stubborn to admit it," said Emma.

"Just shush," said Amanda, sticking out her tongue.

About an hour later, Nick finally got ready and they headed out to rehearsal. They got there in about fifteen minutes and as Amanda predicted, Kevin was in a mood because they were a little late. "Nick…Amanda…" he started to say with a serious look on his face.

"It's his fault," said Amanda, "I was awake. I promise."

Nick sighed, "I'm sorry, alright?"

"AJ's not even late this often, Nick. You need to be on time more often," said Kevin, "I'll just stop my lecture here. I'm sure you're sorry, and I don't want to scare Emma." He cracked a smile and said, "How are you doing, Emma?"

"Fine, thanks. You guys seem busy," said Emma.

"Yeah, we're rehearsing for our upcoming tour. It's gonna be quite a show," explained Kevin. Nick and Amanda were a little surprised at the fact that Kevin's lecture was so short and painless. "Well, come on you two. The other guys, the band, the dancers and Fatima are all waiting." The two just nodded and followed Kevin while Emma took a seat. The staff briefed the boys, the dancers, and the band on exactly what they would be practicing that day. They were going to practice for the first half of the concert. Although that would mean about 45 minutes, the rehearsal itself took over 2 hours. In between the songs, Fatima would talk to the boys and the dancers and AJ would keep wandering off to talk to the girl dancers. Fatima kept yelling at him but he kept doing it. Finally, Fatima took one of the bungee cords that weren't being used, tied AJ up and handed the cord to Amanda.

"If he moves, all of you can kick him," said Fatima.

"Hey! I'm not a dog! Let me go!" whined AJ.

Amanda rolled her eyes. AJ kept struggling. "Hey, he moved," said Brian, kicking him slightly.

"Ow!" said AJ, jumping slightly.

"Hey, he moved again," said Nick, kicking him.

"…I'm surrounded by idiots," commented Amanda while Emma found this a bit amusing.

"Okay, I'm changing the rules," said Fatima, realizing she's not going to get anything done this way, "Amanda, just hold onto him. You, sit down, and you two, stay on that side. If you guys start goofing off again, we're going to start from the beginning again. Got it?" Brian and Nick nodded and calmed down, feeling like they were getting icy glares from Kevin and Howie and worse would come if they didn't stop. AJ mumbled something and sat down. Finally, Fatima got through what she was trying to say and she gave them a break. Nick thought it'd be funny to kick AJ again while he had a chance, a bit hard this time.

"OW!! Damn it, Nick, come here!!" said AJ, trying to run after Nick who just ran for dear life.

Amanda kept holding onto the cord and mumbled, "Keep running, idiot." Once the cord was extended, Amanda let go of the cord with a smirk.

AJ ended up falling forward and the cord snapped on his back. "…Ow," said AJ.

Nick found this a bit too funny and started to choke on his own laugh. The other boys couldn't help but laugh and Amanda started to crack up. Emma giggled but went up to the stage to make sure that AJ was okay.

AJ finally got back onto his feet and Amanda helped him out of the cord, actually feeling a little guilt. "…You okay?" asked Amanda.

"…Didn't think you'd worry. Yeah, I'm fine. Nothing's broken…." AJ stopped and his eyes widened.

"…What?" asked Amanda.

"OMG! I can't feel my arm!! I can't feel my arm!!" yelled AJ,(think bsb tv from last year..."omg!! I've been left in the dark!!") scaring the crap out of Amanda, "I can't….nah just playin'" he finished with a laugh and sticking his tongue out.

"You are such a dork," said Amanda, who couldn't help to laugh a little.

"I know, but that's why you all love me," said AJ, getting into a dramatic mode, which Amanda replied with the rolling of her eyes again.

A few minutes later, Nick went up to Emma. AJ and Amanda sat right behind them and listened in. "Hey, Nick," said Emma, trying her best not to sound nervous.

"Hey," said Nick, sitting down next to her, "What's up?"

"Not much. You guys seem to be hard at work" said Emma.

"Yeah, but it's all worth it," said Nick.

"The fans will be happy. I know I am," said Emma, smiling.

"Emma…" said Nick.

"Yeah?" asked Emma.

AJ and Amanda moved up slightly, trying to listen in even more. Nick tried his best to ignore the two that were trying to make their ears grow. "Are you busy tomorrow?" asked Nick, finally.

"Nope. Wait, well, Amanda wanted to go somewhere," replied Emma.

"We can go some other time," Amanda was quick to say.

"Well, then I guess not," said Emma.

"Um…do…do you wanna go out with me…tomorrow?" asked Nick.

Emma's eyes widened. "…Did you just ask me out on a date?" she asked, blushing.

Nick looked down slightly and nodded. "I…I mean, I completely understand if you don't want to go… I mean… who would want to go out with…" Nick started to babble.

But Emma was quick to interrupt Nick's ramblings by simply saying, "I'd love to."

Nick looked up, with a slightly shocked expression on his face. "What?" he asked, hoping he heard right.

Emma smiled sweetly and repeated herself, "I'd love to."

Nick then smiled the biggest and cutest grin ever known and yiiied. "I'll pick you up at about 4. I know it's a little early but I want to take you to a few places."

"Nick…she's staying are your house," said Amanda.

Nick thought for a second, "I mean… you know what I meant!! I know it's a little early but I want to take you to a few places," said Nick.

"Okay…" said Emma, smiling.

"Come on guys, we gotta get back to work," called Kevin from the stage.

"I'll…um…talk to you later, k?" asked Nick. Emma nodded.

Nick went back up to the stage, and jumped like a little kid in joy. That made even Amanda smile while Kevin and Howie were trying to figure out what just made their little brother overly hyper.

After the rehearsal, a girl with short blonde hair wearing a short tank top showing off her navel resembling Pam Anderson walked up to the others. "Hey guys," she said.

The boys and Amanda turned around, and AJ said, "Hey Brittney."

"…Hey Brit," Amanda said hesitantly.

"What's up?" asked Brittney.

"Not much," answered Brian, "We were all just gonna head home and get some rest."

"Hey Nick, are you doing anything later?" asked Brittney.

Before Nick could answer, Amanda stepped in and said, "Nope, we sort of have plans to go out tonight. Right, Nick?"

"…Right," said Nick, then he whispered to her, "We do?" Amanda elbowed him in the stomach.

"Oh okay, I just wanted to know if you wanted to go to a movie or something," said Brittney.

"I'll go," said AJ.

"No you won't," said Amanda.

"I won't?" asked AJ, raising his eyebrow.

"Nope, you're coming with us," said Amanda.

"…Okay…maybe some other time, Brit," said AJ.

Brittney gave Amanda a look but said, "Alright…see you guys later," as she walked off.

"What was all that about?" asked Kevin.

"I don't know…I guess I'm going out…?" asked AJ.

"Yeah. I'm inviting you guys to dinner. I'd take this chance now because I don't think of offering that that often," said Amanda.

"Thanks Amanda, but I'll pass. I'm gonna head home and get some sleep," said Howie.

"Same here," said Kevin.

"Fine grandpas, go home," said Amanda, sticking out her tongue.

They just smiled and said, "See you later, Amanda."

"Um…I'm going too, Kevin's my ride today, so see ya," said Brian.

"Fine, ya'll just go home…" said Amanda, a little bitter.

"…And I'm supposed to pick a night with you over a night with Brit?" asked AJ, who was being a little sarcastic, and a little serious.

This comment upset Amanda just a little and she replied, "FINE. Come on, Nick, Emma, let's go." She stomped off.

Emma stepped up onto the stage. "Did I miss something?" she asked.

"…Good job, AJ," said Nick.

"…And I'm supposed to care?" asked AJ.

"Whatever, AJ. But you know that did hurt her feelings," said Nick.

"…She disses on me all the time and she doesn't care! Why should I?" asked AJ.

"Because you know she doesn't mean it, and …just, nevermind. Come on, Emma, let's go," said Nick.

"Ugh, fine! I'll go talk to her," said AJ, mumbling and following Amanda.

"Okay, now I know I missed something," said Emma.

"Brittney, the girl you just saw, and Amanda, aren't too fond of each other. Well, at least Amanda's not too fond of her. I don't know why Amanda wanted to bring AJ along though…or why she answered for me. I would have said no in the first place, if I got to spend the night with you," said Nick, not really realizing what he said at the end.

"…Really?" asked Emma.

Nick replayed what he just said in his head and blushed a little but nodded. Emma returned with a smile. "Come on, we better catch up before they kill each other," said Nick, rushing after them. After that, Amanda refused to talk to AJ, which did make him feel a little guilty. AJ hated the fact of having anyone mad at him. For the whole night, he tried everything to get Amanda to talk to him. Well, she talked to him but nothing but obscenities came out. Amanda really didn't plan to go anywhere so they just ended up going to the beach. Amanda still ignored AJ no matter what he did to try to get her to talk in anything besides obscenities. They were walking along the water, Amanda slightly ahead, followed by AJ and then Emma and Nick, walking pretty close to each other.

Finally, AJ got really frustrated and whispered to Nick, "Hey, how can I get her to talk, laugh…something besides cuss at me?"

"Come here," said Nick. AJ came closer and Nick shoved him into the water. Nick started to choke on his own laugh as AJ sat in complete shock. Emma tried to be nice but ended up giggling. Amanda turned around to see what all the fuss was about. She couldn't help but laugh seeing AJ on his butt in the water.

AJ finally overcame his shock and shouted, "WHAT DID YOU DO THAT FOR?!"

Nick, still laughing, replied, "You said you wanted to make her laugh."

AJ glared at him and said, "Come here."

Nick shook his head and said, "Nuh uh."

"Nick!!" said AJ, getting up and chasing after Nick while Nick ran for his life. The two girls watched in amusement as eventually AJ caught Nick and shoved him into the water, creating a big water fight between those two. The two finally calmed down after a while and looked up at the two girls that were laughing at them. They looked at each other and smiled evilly and then looked at the girls.

"…What?" asked Emma.

The two were still smirking and moved closer to the girls. The girls stepped back slightly and Amanda said, "Get away…" The two kept smirking and then ran toward the girls. The girls tried to run but they caught them and they tossed them into the water. They sat in the water completely soaked.

"…Come here, Nick," said Emma.

Nick moved closer and leaned over to her. "Yeah?" he asked.

Emma innocently held out her hands and said, "Help me up, please?" Nick just nodded and took her hands. As she was getting up, she pulled him down into the water. She rung out her shirt and smiled innocently. "Oops?"

Nick couldn't help but smile. Amanda on the other hand, glared at AJ. AJ felt a chill down his spine. "Aw, Amanda, I'm sorry. It was just a joke," said AJ.

"Come here," said Amanda, her expression not changing.

AJ did as he was told and she motioned him to move closer. "Aw, Amanda, I am sorry, I really am…" said AJ. She motioned him to come even closer. Once he got right up to her face, Amanda splashed AJ's face with water and then started to laugh. AJ's jaw dropped. "Gotcha," said Amanda, finally smiling. She stood up and held her hand out as an offer to help him up.

"Come here," said AJ, taking her hand and pulling her back into the water and close to him. The four ended up in a huge water fight and once they finally calmed down, they laid down on the sand staring up at the sky. "Hey, Amanda."

"Yeah?" asked Amanda, still looking up at the sky.

"…I'm sorry for what I said earlier," said AJ.

"It's alright, I'm sure anyone would rather spend a night with Brittney than me. You were just saying what you thought and I'm sorry for dragging you into this and yelling at you for the truth," said Amanda.

"…No, I just said it to be mean. And, I'm really sorry. I didn't think it'd upset you this much," said AJ.

"It didn't," said Amanda.

"Yeah right," said Nick, getting back at Amanda for listening in.

"Shut up, Squeaker," said Amanda. Nick just stuck his tongue out at her again. Amanda rolled her eyes and said, "Squeaker, we better head back so you can get ready for your date tomorrow."

Nick shot straight up, "Oh yeah, come on, let's go! I have a lot to do," he said, getting on his feet.

"God, you're worse than a girl," said Amanda, standing up as well and dusting herself off.

"I am not," argued Nick, "I just want everything to go perfectly."

Emma and AJ also stood up. "Everything already is perfect," whispered Emma.
